I Accidentally Freebirthed in My Car
My birth story
This is a true story of how I accidentally freebirthed my first baby in my car.
Note: Early in my pregnancy, I first heard the term “freebirth” — freebirth, also known as unassisted birth, is when a woman chooses to give birth without the assistance of a healthcare professional, such as a midwife or doctor.
I thought, Wow, that’s crazy! I would never do that…but I was in for a surprise.
“I’m not delivering in a hospital — that’s the only thing I know for sure.”
“What?” My sister replied when I told her my ideas for an ideal birth.
“Yep...All-natural. No induction. No pain meds. No epidural.”
And that was that.
My sister probably thought I was crazy, as did the others I told my plan. I don’t know why I felt so strongly about this decision, but I wouldn’t waver. It was like a deep-seated belief that had been there all along, and finally made its way to the surface.
I ended up deciding on a local birth center with a midwife. We toured the facility. They had two cozy birthing rooms, each with a queen bed and large bathtub. I was excited to deliver in a beautiful place like this.
